Description

Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week with option to pick up additional shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Patient Ratios: Medical-Surgical (MS) 4-6:1
  • Float Requirement: Must float within adult medical surgical competency group; may float to various units including acute care and critical care overflow
  • Orientation: Must be available for the first 2 weeks for orientation

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search (SSN trace, national/statewide criminal, sex offender, education verification, MVR)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions/units (not typically required for this role unless specified)
  • Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements (not applicable here)
  • Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required annually
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Proof of immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or facility declination required
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1; proof or exemption must be submitted by December 1
  • 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable if 10-panel)

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam within 1 year prior to assignment start (minimum 80% passing score)
  • Competency exam in specialty within 1 year prior to start (minimum 80% passing score)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
  • Review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start
  • One holiday off allowed per contract with restrictions (only one holiday day or one holiday eve/day after, not both)
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

  • Candidates must be prepared to float within adult medical surgical units and possibly critical care overflow units
  • Fit testing may be required depending on specific unit assignment (not explicitly required for this role)
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements prior to start
