Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work as a Critical Care Float Pool RN covering weekend day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) plus one additional shift during the week.
- Float to various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICUs
- Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
- Cardiology/Diagnostics
- CVICU
- SICU / MICU / NCCU
- Float policy requires nurses to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
Shift Details
- Weekend day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) plus one weekday shift.
- 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Annual fit mask testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear before or at start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
- NIH Stroke certification must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for applicable units.
