Description

Registered Nurse - ER (Night Shift) - Travel/Contract

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Population: Adult & Pediatric patients; may care for holding patients
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4-6 (to be confirmed)
  • Trauma Level: Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with Level II Trauma patients in an acute care setting
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • IV Certification
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including all aliases and locations for past 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
    • New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List check within 30 days of start and for extensions
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes; additional clearance if history of positive TB
    • Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Immunity documentation or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Fit test and Respiratory Medical Clearance required prior to start; on-site fit testing mandatory
    • Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
    • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • On-site Requirements:
    • Must bring physical exam and respiratory clearance documents on first day for mandatory fit test
    • Facial hair must be clean-shaven for fit testing unless approved accommodation is provided

Orientation and Facility Requirements

  • Must complete annual education sign-off and review facility-specific safety manuals prior to start
  • Must sign job description for assigned unit prior to start
  • Must complete floating policy acknowledgment for every new assignment or site transfer
  • Must complete required facility-specific training and attestations (e.g., patient safety, medication storage procedures)
  • Must complete annual OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission training

  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Housing suggestions provided due to local events (not included here per instructions)
  • Candidate must provide government-issued photo ID and driver's license within 48 hours of signing contract
  • All certifications must be current or have renewal confirmation if expiring within one month of start
  • Candidates switching between sites with less than 30-day gap may reuse certain documentation within validity periods
