Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
• Total hours per week: 36

Job Description

• Must be able to circulate and scrub in the Operating Room.
• Patient mix includes all OR specialties except Open Heart.
• Required experience in robotic and ENT surgeries.
• Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required.
• Facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center.
• Charting system used: EPIC.
• Call required 2 times per schedule.
• Scrubs provided.
• First-time travelers accepted.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience in an Acute Care setting.
• Ability to circulate and scrub in the Operating Room.
• Experience in Robotic Surgery.
• Experience in General Surgery.
• Experience in ENT Surgery.
• Experience in Orthopedic Surgery.
• Experience in Vascular Surgery.
• Experience in Thoracic Surgery.
• Experience in Neurosurgery.

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or equivalent.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (verify if applicable).
• Other certifications (e.g., IV Certification) as applicable.
• Pass/fail competency exams including medication/pharmacology, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy/infusion required within 12 months of start.
• Completion of required CEUs (Continuing Education Units) as applicable.
• Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.

Health & Safety Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming fitness for duty and free of communicable disease.
• Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start.
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• Immunity or vaccination proof for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
• Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use.
• Color vision test if job tasks require color discrimination.

Background & Documentation

• Criminal background check required within 30 days of start.
• Must clear federal and state exclusion lists and verifications.
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
• Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
• New Jersey state-specific work history verification required (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps).
• Government-issued photo ID and driver's license required within 48 hours of signing.
• Completion of facility-specific documents including floating policy, job description acknowledgment, and annual education materials.

• Due to local events (e.g., World Cup games), housing suggestions include Staten Island, Montclair, West Orange, and Belleville.
