Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location
- Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Details
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Total hours per week: 36
Job Description
- Must be able to circulate and scrub in the Operating Room.
- Patient mix includes all OR specialties except Open Heart.
- Required experience in robotic and ENT surgeries.
- Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required.
- Facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
- Call required 2 times per schedule.
- Scrubs provided.
- First-time travelers accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in an Acute Care setting.
- Ability to circulate and scrub in the Operating Room.
- Experience in Robotic Surgery.
- Experience in General Surgery.
- Experience in ENT Surgery.
- Experience in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Experience in Vascular Surgery.
- Experience in Thoracic Surgery.
- Experience in Neurosurgery.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or equivalent.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (verify if applicable).
- Other certifications (e.g., IV Certification) as applicable.
- Pass/fail competency exams including medication/pharmacology, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy/infusion required within 12 months of start.
- Completion of required CEUs (Continuing Education Units) as applicable.
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming fitness for duty and free of communicable disease.
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Immunity or vaccination proof for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use.
- Color vision test if job tasks require color discrimination.
Background & Documentation
- Criminal background check required within 30 days of start.
- Must clear federal and state exclusion lists and verifications.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- New Jersey state-specific work history verification required (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps).
- Government-issued photo ID and driver's license required within 48 hours of signing.
- Completion of facility-specific documents including floating policy, job description acknowledgment, and annual education materials.

- Due to local events (e.g., World Cup games), housing suggestions include Staten Island, Montclair, West Orange, and Belleville.
