Description
Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST) - Travel/Contract
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Certified OR Tech with strong proficiency in orthopedic, neurosurgery, and general surgical services. Experience in all three areas is required.
Schedule
- Shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (11:00 AM – 11:00 PM)
- Rotating on-call with staff
- Weekend rotation with staff
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Certified Surgical Technologist license in Virginia
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- OR Tech certification accepted: NBSTSA or NCCT
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong experience in general surgery
- Strong experience in orthopedic surgery, including total joints
- Strong experience in neurosurgery
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Patient ages: Neonates, infants, adolescents, pediatrics, geriatrics
- Level I trauma OR with 25 OR suites, 24/7 nursing coverage
- Surgical specialties include general, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastics, gynecology, oncology, robotic surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, pediatrics, sports medicine
- Special equipment: ROSA, Si and Xi daVinci robots, stealth, O-Arm, HIPEC
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address more than 100 miles from facility (radius rule applies)
- E-Verify or attestation required
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification of highest earned degree
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (masks: 1860S, 1860, 1870+1804S)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations or positive titers required for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements within 48 hours of signing
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required prior to start
- Skills checklist updated annually
Additional Notes
- First-time travelers accepted
- No local candidates accepted due to radius restrictions
- Must include all scheduling requests with submission
This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level I trauma OR with advanced surgical technology and a diverse patient population. Strong surgical tech skills across multiple specialties and compliance with all licensing and documentation requirements are essential.
