Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVICU (Critical Care)
Location: Middletown, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
Seeking a Registered Nurse with specialized experience in open heart care for a 16-bed ICU unit in a Level III Trauma Center hospital.
Patient Care Focus:
- Care for patients post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and valve surgery
- Management of patients with Impella devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Care for ischemic stroke patients receiving TPA in a designated Neuro Unit
- Management of COVID-positive patients, 24-hour EEG monitoring, hypothermia post cardiac arrest, and prone positioning
Patient Ratios:
- Critical Care: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Intermediate Level: 1 nurse to 3 patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Skills and Knowledge
- Experience with advanced cardiac and critical care equipment and protocols
- Familiarity with family-centered care and flexible visiting hours
- Strong customer service orientation
Floating and Scheduling
- Floating assignments will be at the employer’s discretion and may include multiple nearby campuses
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts during the contract due to low census
- Contract may be canceled with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
Documentation and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- E-Verify compliance required prior to start
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national sex offender registry, and multi-state checks
- Drug screening (9 or 10 panel including marijuana) within 12 months prior to start; lab confirmation required for positives
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty and freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
- Skills checklist and unit-specific competency exams within 2 years prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam within 2 years
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year or must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts allowed)
- NIH Stroke certification required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually
- Two professional references within 2 years, including at least one manager/supervisor or charge RN
- Current resume/application required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting is not required for this assignment
- Candidate must submit a medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation
- Travel nurses are first to float and may be assigned to various specialty clusters
- Travel nurses are not eligible for employee incentives
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
