Medical Lab Scientist - Travel/Contract

Location: Newberg, Oregon
Contract Length: 26 weeks

  • Total Beds: 60
  • Shift Options:
    • Day Shift: 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM (4x10 hours)
    • Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 12:30 AM (4x10 hours)
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Weekend Requirement: Rotating weekends after full training
  • On-call: Yes, as needed
  • Floating: No floating between units
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Dress Code: Any color scrub or business casual
  • Parking: No fee

Job Description

  • Seeking a generalist Medical Laboratory Scientist to cover various shifts due to severe staffing shortages.
  • Night shift availability requested only if able to work independently after training and competency.
  • Most shifts will be mid, evening, and rotating weekends.
  • Blood Bank experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) with at least 1 year of experience.
  • Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience within the last year.
  • Blood Bank experience.

Certifications (as applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - if required by unit.
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, etc.) only if specified by unit or clinical track.
  • IV Certification if required by specialty.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card (as applicable for I9).
  • Background Check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education Verification required for all candidates.
  • Drug Screen: 9 Panel within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting.
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment.
  • Work History Verification required if exceptions to references are requested.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
  • Fit Mask testing required for travel candidates (updated annually).
  • Immunizations/Vaccinations:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination accepted.
    • Flu Vaccine during flu season or declination accepted.
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow masking policies.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer or declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination.
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series and/or positive titer or signed declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; must be updated annually.

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable.
  • Competency Exams required as applicable by specialty.
  • Color Blind Testing may be required on a unit basis.

Additional Requirements

  • Float Policy Acknowledgement: Traveler may be required to float to another facility within reasonable distance.
  • Annual Regulatory and Specialty-Specific Training Modules required via LMS (Workramp).
  • Epic training modules required and must be completed within orientation week.

Notes

  • This is a first-timer travel contract for 26 weeks.
  • Night shifts only if competent to work independently.
  • Rotating weekends after full training.
  • No 48-hour shifts approved.
