Description
Registered Nurse - Ortho (Travel/Contract)
Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work a 3x12 hour night shift schedule (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- No on-call duties
- Float to other units as needed
- Charge RN shifts required as needed
- Unit has 29 beds, caring for adult through geriatric orthopedic and medical-surgical patients
- Telemetry monitoring available
- Patient population includes total joint replacements, fracture repairs, kyphoplasties, other surgical procedures, inpatient, and 24-hour observation medical patients
- Physical therapy gym available on unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Experience in Charge RN roles
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC approved
- Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia Competency Exam (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health or Case Managers)
- Charge RN experience and ability to perform charge duties
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing (EPIC or Dysrhythmia/EKG) required
- Other certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) may be required depending on unit but not specified here
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (required for badge issuance)
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases, national criminal search, federal court, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 3, education verification, and international searches if applicable
- Education verification by a 3rd party for nursing degree (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required)
- Transcript or diploma may be requested if education verification is delayed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start (includes THC, opiates, methadone, cocaine, PCP, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, oxycodone, propoxyphene)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of adult Tdap vaccine required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 6 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity proof or vaccination series
- Varicella immunity proof or vaccination series
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Fit mask test completed within current calendar year and updated annually (N95 respirators approved)
- Health History Form and any physician-mandated work restrictions documentation
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
- Verification of all employment within last 5 years through third party
- Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months prior to start)
- Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
Additional Job Details
- Compliance deadline: 12 Noon EST the Wednesday prior to start date
- Facility enforces strict photo requirements for badge photos (no selfies, no cropped photos, business casual or uniform attire, solid color background, forward-facing pose)
- Floating policy applies to all agency staff and must be reviewed and signed
- Contractor equipment acknowledgement form required
- Workday login and onboarding tasks must be completed prior to arrival, including MFA setup
- Fingerprinting required only for Home Health and Long-Term Care positions (not applicable here)
Work Environment
- High volume orthopedic and medical-surgical patient care
- Telemetry monitoring available
- Physical therapy gym on unit for patient rehab without leaving the floor
Scheduling & Shift Details
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend required
- No call required
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with charge experience who are comfortable working night shifts in an orthopedic and medical-surgical telemetry unit.
