Job Opportunity: PCU Float Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Float Pool during night shifts.
- May be required to float to another affiliated hospital within a 5–6 minute walk.
- Floating may include units of equivalent or lower acuity.
- Estimated patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Cardiac PCU - Progressive Care Unit.
- Cardiac PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment).
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear before or at start; pending results require attestation.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment (check with recruiter).
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application required, including education details.
- Skills checklist must be completed.
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required.
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form must be signed.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
Parking and Commute
- No commute required between affiliated hospitals (walking distance).
- Various parking permit options available (costs subject to change).
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with night shifts, floating between units, and working in a telemetry/PCU environment with EPIC documentation.
