Description

Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Oncology Pod) – Night Shift – Columbus, Ohio

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Floating: Required within the Emergency Department

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
  • At least 1 year of prior travel nursing experience is required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not mandatory
  • EPIC electronic health record experience is required

Required Certifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Required Skills

  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce compliance systems (OIG/SAM checks)
  • Submission of a pending background check attestation if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
  • Fit mask testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment length)

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • NIH Stroke certification required (must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)

Additional Requirements

  • Submission of Request Time Off (RTO) at time of application; up to 7 consecutive days off may be granted at facility discretion for 14-week contracts
  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist submission required
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and updated annually
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Compliance with ethics and compliance policies, reviewed and signed annually

Parking

  • Various parking permit options available for agency staff (costs and availability subject to change)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • At least 1 year of total travel nursing experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
