Cardiac Telemetry Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Telemetry unit caring for patients with cardiac conditions such as chest pain, arrhythmias, pacemakers, defibrillators, and heart failure.
- Float requirement to other telemetry units.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients.
- Shift: Day shift, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM (12-hour shifts), 36 hours per week.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend days within a 6-week period.
- Orientation: 36 hours.
Required Skills and Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Experience with cardiac drips and cardiac GTT (glucose tolerance test) administration.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross accepted.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross accepted.
Licensure
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina.
Unit Systems and Tools
- EPIC electronic health record system.
- Pyxis medication dispensing system.
- SBAR communication framework.
Compliance and Testing Requirements
- Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam with a minimum score of 82% on the first attempt within 72 hours of orientation start. Up to three attempts allowed with remediation required after failures.
- Background checks required within 90 days of start, including local, federal, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen).
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy.
- Completion of medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules prior to start.
Orientation and Onboarding
- 36 hours of unit-specific orientation required.
- Photo for badge must be submitted promptly after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire).
- Must complete facility-specific confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies acknowledgment.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates).
- Must complete annual compliance training and other state-specific mandatory education if applicable.
- Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required within 72 hours of contract signing, including proof of login.
Additional Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation.
- Scrubs are not provided.
- Radiation badge not required for this position.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel and acute care positions.
- Employment application must be uploaded prior to start.
