Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours, 18:45 - 07:15)
Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours with no OT billed until after 48 hours)
Job Overview
- Work on a Cardiac Telemetry Unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio and an average daily census of 23 patients.
- Patient diagnoses include cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction (MI), acute coronary syndrome (ACS), uncontrolled diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), heart failure, post heart catheterization, post pacemaker (PPM), post implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), and management of cardiac drips.
- No blood pressure titration required.
- Floating between units is required.
- Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts during the contract.
- Teamwork is essential; no charge nurses on the unit.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Proficient in management of dysrhythmias.
Additional Job Details
- RTO (Return to Office) Policy: No RTO allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation and Do Not Rebook (DNR) status.
- Unit Systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.
- Special Procedures: Cardiac drips management; no blood pressure titration.
- Competency Testing: Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start, must score 82% or higher. Three attempts allowed before cancellation.
- Float Requirement: Yes, floating to other units as needed.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and updated annually.
- Fit mask testing required (N95 or PAPR training accepted except at Ashe Memorial).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy.
- Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination). Declinations generally not accepted except for Hep B with facility form.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required; exemptions require mask wearing on campus.
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification.
- Required to complete annual compliance and facility-specific education modules prior to or during assignment.
Documentation and Onboarding
- Must provide professional references (2 for travel acute care).
- Employment application and skills checklist as applicable.
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses).
- Confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and other facility-specific documents required.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8-10 hours for acute candidates).
- Must complete Medication Safety training and provide certificate of completion.
- Must complete Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid start delays.

- Strong cardiac telemetry skills and ability to manage complex cardiac patients are essential.
- Teamwork and adherence to unit policies are critical for success.

This position is ideal for RNs with cardiac telemetry experience seeking a 13-week travel contract on a night shift in North Carolina. First-time travelers are welcome, but strong cardiac telemetry skills and certifications are mandatory.
