Behavioral Health Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job
Location: Salisbury, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work setting: Geriatric & Inpatient Behavioral Health unit
- Patient diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, ALS, and Parkinson’s
- Geriatric behavioral health experience is required
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:8
- Average daily census: 15 patients
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week (3 shifts)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Float requirement: Yes
- Call requirement: None
- Orientation: 24 hours on the unit
- Scrubs: Solid navy blue or white
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with geriatric patients in an inpatient setting
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute - must be completed onsite within first 30 days)
Patient Care Skills Required
- Experience caring for patients with:
- Bipolar disorders
- Depressive disorders
- Schizophrenia-spectrum disorders
- Degenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s, ALS, Parkinson’s)
Systems and Competencies
- Familiarity with unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start (must score 82% or higher)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually if past positive TB)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility guidelines
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical)
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
Orientation and Onboarding
- Must complete facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, solid white background, business attire)
- Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates)
- Must complete annual compliance and medication safety training
- Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required within 72 hours of contract signing
Additional Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
- Scheduling is per unit needs with some flexibility in shift hours (36 or 48 hours can be offered)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel and acute care candidates
