Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)

Job Description

• Work on a Neuro Cardiac Unit caring for complex Medical Surgical and Telemetry patients.
• Patient population includes post cardiac catheterizations with interventions, CVA/TIA, ICD patients, complex abdominal surgeries (open bellies/colons), oncology, and post-op craniotomy (POD 2).
• Float requirements include first to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is common.
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
• No on-call or call-back required.
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request). Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts.

Unit Information

• 32-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5 (rarely 1:6), Nights 1:6-7.
• Charge nurses take assignments on all shifts.
• Welcoming and supportive staff with proactive charge nurses and helpful clerical support.
• Navy blue scrubs required; no competing health system or agency logos allowed.
• Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires.
• Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins can result in termination.

Required Qualifications

• Current active compact Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum 2 years of strong Medical Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience.
• At least 1 prior travel assignment completed.
• Trauma Level II experience required.
• Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications.
• Recent EPIC charting experience required (checkoff class will be provided).
• Must pass Telemetry tests (including 12-lead EKG interpretation).
• Strong neuro assessment skills including NIHSS and dysphagia screening.
• Ability to initiate and titrate drips (e.g., insulin, cardiac meds, heparin).
• Experience with heart catheterization recovery (femoral and TR bands).
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills essential.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with NG/PEG tubes, peripheral IV insertion, Tikosyn administration, and chest tubes.
• Resilient, adaptable, and socially engaging.

Additional Information

• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered.
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
• Orientation includes a bi-weekly schedule.
• GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week.
