Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Big Spring, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 4x10 hours (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM) with rotating call schedule


Job Description

  • Must have circulating experience in the Operating Room (OR)
  • Rotating call schedule shared between 2 RNs:
    • Call days: Monday, Tuesday, Friday through Sunday one week
    • Wednesday and Thursday the following week
    • Call is only for general surgery and emergency C-sections
  • Schedule flexibility: 5x8s with call preferred, but 4x10s or 5x8s considered
  • Start date expected within 3-5 weeks
  • Initial reporting required at a different facility location on first day, then resume contract at Big Spring

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Fit mask test within 6 months prior to start, annual updates required (accepted masks: 3M 1860 and 1860S)
  • Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • TDAP (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with annual TB questionnaire if applicable)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer or series with declination form if applicable
    • Varicella: positive titer, 2 vaccines, or proof of disease
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination during flu season (10/31-3/31)
    • COVID initial series required (boosters not required)
  • Drug testing required within 30 days of start, including a panel for multiple substances

Orientation and Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific forms prior to start, including:
    • Non-Employee Information Form
    • Vaccine Exemption Form (if applicable)
    • Applicant Health Record Form
    • Code of Conduct and Compliance Form
    • Temporary License Declaration of Residency Form
    • Confidentiality Statement Form
    • Information System Security Agreement Form
    • Non-Employee Orientation Update Form
    • Traveler Orientation review
    • Hepatitis B Declination (if no positive titer on file)
  • Passport-style photo with solid background required for badge
  • Pass/Fail testing during orientation covering medication administration, restraint, and glucometer use
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable

References and Documentation

  • Two professional references within the last 3 years required
  • Copy of resume or employment application required
  • Annual updates required for skills checklist and orientation safety manual acknowledgment

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with prior travel nursing experience who are comfortable with rotating call and working in a surgical environment requiring emergency C-section support.
