Description
Registered Nurse – PCU (Columbus, Ohio)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Shift Details
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Schedule includes weekdays, some weekends, and rotating holidays
- On-call duties required
- Patient ratio approximately 1:3
- May be assigned to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) verified prior to start
- License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role
- Employment application and skills checklist mandatory
Competency & Certification Exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Measles (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Mumps (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B (titer or 3-vaccine series; declination acceptable)
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12; no exemptions if working with infants or pregnant patients)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1–Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- Annual fit mask testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (valid for entire assignment length)
Additional Information
- Parking permits available for purchase but at candidate’s expense
- Must comply with dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Required to complete fraud, waste, and abuse training and compliance reporting forms prior to start
- Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies required
This position offers a challenging PCU night shift role requiring strong clinical skills, certifications, and compliance with rigorous credentialing and health standards. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
