Description
OB Tech (Surgical Services) - Travel/Contract
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Assist with obstetric surgery and patient care in Labor & Delivery areas.
- Provide direct patient care activities under supervision of RN or medical provider.
- Support nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests.
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, Foley catheter care, and documentation.
- Float to cover Labor & Delivery and Women's Health units.
Schedule
- 3x12 hour shifts, rotating day/night:
- Day shift: 06:50 – 19:20
- Night shift: 18:50 – 07:20
- Call required: 3 shifts per 6-week period
- Every 3rd weekend required
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of OB Technician experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment as an OB Technician
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC) required
- Experience in a clinic setting
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential job function
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to start
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunization and health requirements including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (preferred)
- Documentation of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required for Labor & Delivery candidates; AWHONN acceptable as placeholder if C-EFM not yet completed, but must register for C-EFM course
- Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology test (minimum 80% score)
- Skills checklist and competency exams updated annually
Experience & References
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
- Call and weekend coverage required as part of the role
This position is ideal for experienced OB Techs with surgical tech and CNA certifications, who have prior travel assignment experience and are comfortable working rotating 12-hour shifts in a Labor & Delivery setting.
