Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Fast-paced, high-acuity maternity unit with more than 300 births per month.
  • Double labor assignments are common daily.
  • Average patient load includes 20 births in 24 hours, 30-40 admissions, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms.
  • Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks gestation and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks.
  • Procedures performed include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage.
  • Unit systems used: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.
  • Orientation: 24 hours.
  • Scrubs provided (blue).

Work Schedule

  • Shift: Day shift, 12 hours (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM)
  • Hours per week: 36 (3 shifts of 12 hours)
  • Weekend requirement: Minimum every other weekend, approximately 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
  • Float requirement: Float to other areas as needed within the special maternity care/high-risk OB unit.
  • May be required to precept/orient new staff members.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with recent experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification.
  • Competency in circulating in the operating room (OR).
  • Skilled in performing sterile vaginal exams.
  • Competent in immediate newborn care.

Patient Care Details

  • Care for obstetrical patients including high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum.
  • Obstetrical triage unit for patient screening and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration.
  • High acuity and busier than typical labor and delivery units.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable). Boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal. Declinations are not accepted except for Hepatitis B with specific facility form.
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season; exemptions require mask-wearing on campus.
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and annual physician-signed TB questionnaire required.
  • Annual compliance training and facility-specific education modules required.
  • Medication safety training and competency exams as applicable.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start with a minimum passing score of 82%.

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation.
  • 13 to 26-week contracts accepted.
  • RTO maximum of 7 days for auto-offer.
  • Due to the fast-paced nature, 48-hour contracts are not recommended.
  • Facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreements, badge photos, and orientation checklists must be completed prior to start.
  • Candidates must complete the Corp ID and I-Learn account setup within specified timelines to avoid start delays.
