Description

Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 18 weeks


Job Summary

  • Fast-paced Ambulatory Surgery Center specializing in Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Eye surgeries with 6 operating rooms.
  • Patient age groups include infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Average daily census: 45 patients; 6 rooms/beds.
  • Shift: Day shift, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM), 40 hours per week.
  • No call or weekend requirements.
  • Float to other Charlotte area ASCs rarely required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience in an outpatient setting.
  • ENT surgery experience.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pediatric general OR experience.
  • Bronchoscopy and ophthalmology surgical skills (cataract extraction/implant, corneal transplant, eye trauma, glaucoma surgery, vitrectomy).
  • Pediatric ophthalmology skills including eye trauma.
  • Familiarity with electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords.
  • Knowledge of infection control and laser safety.

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Unit orientation: 40 hours.
  • Scrubs provided.
  • RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation.
  • Maximum 7 days RTO allowed for auto-offer.

Patient Population & Diagnoses

  • ENT surgeries, cataracts, ocular plastics, head and neck conditions.

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Background check required within 6 months for clinical candidates.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or documentation of past positive).
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunizations or titers as per policy.
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement.
  • Competency exams including medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (must pass with 82% or higher), and color blindness testing within 1 year.
  • Required facility-specific documents include photo for badge, confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgment, hospital policies acknowledgment, and others as applicable.
  • Must complete annual compliance and mandatory education modules as required.
  • Physical exam not required for this crisis profile.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • No call or weekend shifts.
  • Floating to other ambulatory surgery centers in the Charlotte area may be required but is rare.
  • Strict adherence to attendance and RTO policies.

Summary

This is a travel Registered Nurse position in an ambulatory surgery center focused on ENT and ophthalmology surgeries. Candidates must have at least 2 years of RN experience, with strong ENT surgical skills and the ability to scrub. First-time travelers are accepted if they meet the skill requirements. The role offers a day shift schedule with no call or weekend requirements and includes orientation and scrubs provided.
