Description
Radiation Therapist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Work setting includes outpatient department and inpatient treatment.
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (5 days x 8 hours). No weekends or on-call required.
- May need to start early or stay later depending on patient needs.
- Duties include:
- Administering radiation therapy treatments.
- Maintaining daily treatment records, dosages, calculations.
- Performing simulations, acquiring treatment parameters, patient contours, and dose calculations.
- Scheduling and coordinating treatments for inpatients and outpatients.
- Monitoring patient condition and progress daily (weight, skin care, reactions).
- Assisting Radiation Oncologist with brachytherapy procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, with experience within the last year.
- ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy.
- Associate's degree in Radiography.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid driver’s license (if driving is part of job duties).
- 7-year background check including SS trace, county searches, nationwide criminal search, sex offender search, and sanctions screening.
- Negative 9 or 10 panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (marijuana tested, no medical marijuana exemptions).
- Physical exam within 2 years prior to start, indicating clearance to work without restrictions.
- Respirator fit test documentation within 1 year of start (if respirator use required).
- Immunizations and titers:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if titers negative/equivocal.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines or documented history of disease.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination form accepted.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap required only if working in L&D, NICU, or Mother/Baby units.
- TB testing: Negative TB test (2 PPDs, QGold, TSpot, or MTB) within 6 months of start. Chest X-ray required if positive TB test history.
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for the flu season.
- Color blindness testing: 100% pass required on online test; in-person testing if failed online.
Certifications
- ARRT Radiation Therapy certification required.
- BLS certification (AHA preferred, ARC or Military accepted).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) not specifically required for this role.
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM) not required unless specified by unit.
Competencies
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam must be completed within 7 days of signing and valid within 2 years of start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required within 2 years of start.
- Color blindness competency required with 2 attempts allowed to pass.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific agreements and confidentiality policies prior to start.
- Fingerprinting required onsite or at designated locations prior to or on first day of orientation.
- Must complete OhioHealth candidate agreement and service commitment forms.
- Must comply with facility’s drug testing, background checks, and immunization policies.
