Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms.
- Responsibilities include antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating and scrub nurse duties, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care.
- Perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens using ALGO 5 Machine.
- Must work in all areas of LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum).
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios.
- Weekend requirement: work every other weekend.
- Float duties include serving as sitter within the house and potentially floating to a nearby facility (27 miles away) when census allows.
- No call required.
- Electronic Medical Record system used: EPIC.
- Scrubs will be provided.
- Holiday coverage required with flexibility for staffing demands.
- No time off (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Maternal-Newborn nursing experience
- Certifications (must have):
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- AWHONN Intermediate or National Certification Corporation Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (NCC C-EFM)
- Proficient in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- E-Verify completed per contract requirements.
- Proof of name change if applicable (legal documentation).
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, with multiple components (SSN trace, national/statewide searches, education verification, MVR, etc.).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start (not applicable to all positions, but required for certain units).
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required (wet signature only) for L&D and pediatric placements.
- Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 30 days of start
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or facility declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (medical/spiritual) required for candidates starting after November 1, with proof by December 1.
- Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for acute care PT/PTAs and certain other clinical roles.
- Completion of Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam and Competency Exam in specialty within 1 year prior to assignment start with passing score ≥80%.
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
- Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually.
- Review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start.
- Vaccine exemption forms must be submitted and approved if applicable.
Additional Notes
- Floating to a nearby facility may be required based on census and staffing needs.
- Candidate must be flexible with holiday scheduling due to staffing demands.
- No call responsibilities.
- Training will be provided for newborn hearing screens.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery nurses with required certifications and flexibility to work night shifts and weekends in a fast-paced LDRP environment.
