Department & Setting

• Operating Room (OR) – Pediatric Surgery
• 30 total OR suites; pediatric surgery runs 3 to 4 rooms daily
• EMR system: Epic

Schedule & Shifts

• Four 10-hour day shifts (07:00–17:30), Monday through Friday
• Call shifts for nights, weekends, and holidays
• Weekend call rotation: 1 weekend every 4 weeks (Saturday 07:00 through Monday 07:00)
• Holiday call: on call for 24 hours if holiday falls during contract
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Self-scheduling available but balanced before publishing
• No set day off; scheduling aims to limit more than 2 Fridays or 2 Mondays off in each 6-week period

Clinical Responsibilities

• Primary circulating nurse in OR cases (scrubbing not required)
• Pediatric general surgery cases plus pediatric/adult ENT, dental, urology, ophthalmology, simple ortho, and GI
• Floating within the department as needed (ortho, neuro, general, cardiac, vascular, SPD) to assist between rooms or cover breaks

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation
• BLS (AHA) certification required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience as primary circulating nurse in OR cases
• Preferably 2 years pediatric circulating experience

Orientation & Training

• 1–2 days with surgery department educator
• 2–3 days OR orientation covering department, cases, and surgeons
• 12 non-billable orientation hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)

Additional Information

• Hospital provides scrubs; scrubs must remain on-site
• Charge nurse present daily; house supervisor available 24/7
• OR staffed with 1 RN and 1 surgical tech per room, plus on-call coverage
• Drug-free campus policy; negative drug screen required for all panels
• Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles
• Call off policy: equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
