Registered Nurse (Med-Surg) - Illinois
Location
- City: Alton, Illinois

Unit Details
- Department: Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg)
- Beds: 22 (West hallway), 23 (South hallway)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-6 depending on patient acuity
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Sepsis, CHF, stroke, wounds, tracheostomy, chest tubes, hypoxia, pneumonia, tube feedings, post-surgical care
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
- Shift Times: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM
- Shift Type for this role: Nights
- Hours per week: 36
- Scheduling: Block scheduling allowed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun)
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday (Days: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's; Nights: Eves of these holidays)
- No call or standby requirement
- No floating; staff remain on the unit
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor and educator, followed by a 3rd shift with own team
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (AHA) required
- ACLS preferred
- Must be familiar with NG tubes, drains, feeding tubes, and tube feedings
- RNs are not required to titrate drips or oxygen therapy (BiPAP, High Flow, Airvo)
- No ventilator management required
- Charge nurse is a free charge (does not take patient assignment)
- CNAs and patient care technicians available on unit
- Telemetry monitors (Phillips) are monitored by techs in ICU; RNs may read strips if able
Dress Code
- Scrub color: Navy blue
Additional Notes
- Drug-free campus policy; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local rate adjustment applies for clinicians living within 50 miles (not included here)
- Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or payback required

- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
