Description
Registered Nurse – Ortho (Travel/Contract)
Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) off
- No call required
- Float to other units as needed
- Charge RN shifts required as needed
- Unit: 29-bed unit caring for adult through geriatric patients, including orthopedic and medical-surgical patients
- Patient population: High volume of total joint replacements, fracture repairs, kyphoplasties; moderate volume of other surgical and medical patients including 24-hour observation
- Telemetry monitoring available
- Physical therapy gym located on unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in charge nurse roles
- Previous travel nursing experience
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication)
Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC approved
- Pass/Fail EKG (Dysrhythmia) Competency Exam – required for all RNs except Behavioral Health or Case Managers
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement – required
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing (EPIC or Dysrhythmia/EKG) – required
- Other certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) may be required depending on unit but not specified for this role
Compliance & Health Requirements
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start (includes THC, opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, etc.)
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult vaccine proof required)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart
- Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart
- Hepatitis B – titer or declination with booster series as applicable
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- TB testing: Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months of start or chest x-ray if positive history; TB questionnaire within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Fit mask test completed within current calendar year and updated annually (N95 approved types)
- Physical exam required only for certain agencies, not for this role specifically
Additional Requirements
- Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Must complete compliance documentation by deadline (12 Noon EST Wednesday prior to start)
- Candidate must submit a professional badge photo meeting strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire, forward-facing) prior to clearance
- Must review and sign facility floating policy and contractor equipment acknowledgement form
- Must complete health history form including any physician-mandated work restrictions
- Must complete Workday login and onboarding tasks prior to start (includes MFA setup)
Summary
This is a night-shift travel RN contract in orthopedic and medical-surgical care requiring at least 2 years RN experience plus prior travel nursing experience. The role demands flexibility, charge nurse experience, and passing a dysrhythmia EKG exam. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, certifications, and facility-specific policies is mandatory. The position offers a structured 3x12 hour night shift schedule with every other weekend off and no call responsibilities.
