Registered Nurse (ER) – Peoria, Illinois
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (typically 7p-7a)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Patient Population: All ages from newborns to elderly, wide variety of complaints including minor to critically ill patients, strokes, heart attacks, and Level 1/2 trauma patients
- Trauma Level: Level 1 trauma center
- Unit Size: 65 beds, all private, with 2 trauma bays
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-5 depending on acuity and department needs
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TNS
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
- At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience working in a teaching hospital with residents preferred
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Proficient in general nursing skills and critical care nursing in the ED setting
- Ability to titrate a wide variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications
- Able to interpret cardiac rhythms and recognize life-threatening arrhythmias (ACLS required)
- Work collaboratively with trauma teams; travelers typically care for trauma patients after stabilization and transfer from trauma bay
- Assist with respiratory equipment troubleshooting (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow) alongside respiratory therapists
- Draw labs alongside techs; phlebotomy may assist with boarders
- Use Phillips telemetry monitors with orientation provided
Staffing & Support
- Minimum of 3 attending physicians on duty at all times
- Two charge nurses per shift (one managing incoming patients/telemetry, the other managing department needs)
- House supervisor available 24/7
- ED techs available with a ratio of approximately 1:9
- Radiology staff handle X-ray and CT transport
Scheduling & Work Environment
- 12-hour night shifts, no day/night rotation for travelers
- Scheduling managed by scheduling manager; time-off requests considered
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend on rotation (weekends for night shift are Sat/Sun)
- Holiday shifts required every other holiday or as per department needs; negotiable
- No call or standby requirement for travelers
- Floating to other units is rare and limited to “help all” roles; ED nurses not expected to take team assignments on other units
- Dress code: tasteful scrubs with solid-colored shirts underneath; no specific scrub color required

- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Active Illinois nursing license required or proof of application in process
