Description
Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Largo, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, 10:45 AM – 9:15 PM (Mids)
Hours per Week: 40
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care in a Level II Trauma center operating room.
- Cases include general OR with trauma, urology, podiatry, orthopedics, plastics, neurology, gynecology, endocrinology, ENT, thoracic, vascular, cardiac, bariatric, and DaVinci robotics.
- Patient population: Adults and geriatrics.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1.
- Responsibilities include scrubbing and circulating during surgeries.
- Floating within specialty and to a sister campus as needed.
- Holidays and weekends required as scheduled, including rotational on-call shifts.
- On-call requirement: 10-15 shifts per contract; weekday on-call from end of shift to 6:30 AM next day, weekend on-call is 24 hours. On-call shifts are shared among all CVOR staff.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including OR experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Maryland RN license with primary source verification.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and state-specific exclusions list.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- TB (negative test or chest X-ray as applicable, updated annually)
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (for 2025-26 season)
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start.
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start.
- Verification of previous 5 years of employment history.
- Attestation documents including I9, E-Verify, and government-issued photo ID.
- Facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreements, dress code review, badge photo, and job description acknowledgment.
Competencies & Training
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (score ≥80%) within 1 year of start.
- Age-specific competency exam (score ≥80%) within 1 year of start.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training as applicable.
- Other certifications (e.g., TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification) as applicable per unit/job description.
Additional Notes
- Portfolio Epic training test-out option available for eligible candidates.
- Candidate must be prepared for floating and on-call duties as part of the contract.
- Holidays and weekends are mandatory as scheduled.
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong robotics and general OR skills, including those new to travel nursing but confident in their specialty expertise.
