Description

Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health (Travel/Contract)

Location: Thomasville, North Carolina
Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 or 48 hours available


Job Description

  • This is a weekend position (Friday-Sunday).
  • Floating is required; may float to other units including a behavioral health unit at a nearby facility.
  • Patient population: Adults 18+ with behavioral health diagnoses, often with multiple medical comorbidities. Common diagnoses include dementia with behavioral disturbance (60-70% of patients), Alzheimer's, depression, anxiety, mania, psychosis, and other mental illnesses in older adults.
  • Special procedures: Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) performed off-unit in surgical suite.
  • Equipment and environment: Use of lifts, rolling recliners, Voalte phones, walkers, shower chairs.
  • Unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR, dynamaps, computerized care plans, visitation limits, patient handbook.
  • Orientation: 36 hours.
  • Dress code: Navy blue or white scrubs.
  • No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Gerontology Certification (ANCC)
  • Psychiatric/Mental Health Certification

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Floating to other units, including behavioral health units, is mandatory when needed.
  • Candidate must complete various facility-specific documents and trainings prior to or at orientation, including confidentiality agreements, education modules, medication safety, hospital policies, and compliance training.
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract; must be passport style with specific guidelines (solid white background, facing forward, holding paper with full name and phone number at stomach level, no head coverings except glasses, business attire).
  • Candidates must complete the facility’s Corp ID and I-Learn account setup within 24 hours of receiving email instructions to avoid start delays.
  • Orientation and training modules may take 8-10 hours for acute care candidates.
  • Flu exemption requests require medical or religious documentation and must be submitted by specified deadlines; approved exemptions require mask-wearing on campus.
  • EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam is not required for this specialty.
  • Radiation badges are not required for this position.

This is a 13-week travel Registered Nurse position in Behavioral Health requiring weekend night shifts with floating responsibilities.
