Description

Registered Nurse – Surgical Acute (Night Shift)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)

Job Summary

Provide nursing care in a 34-bed adult surgical unit.
Perform standard RPN III duties with a focus on preoperative and postoperative care for abdominal surgeries (e.g., laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomy, thyroidectomy), chest tubes, and drains.
Utilize equipment including vital signs machines, IV & PCA pumps, electronic medical records (WOWS/EMR), and Pyxis medication systems.
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 RN to 5-6 patients.
Floating to other units/departments may be required.
Dress code: Regular nursing uniforms.

Schedule

Three 12-hour night shifts per week.
Must be able to work weekends and flexible shifts.
No on-call requirement.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Hawaii.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Minimum of 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
Preoperative and postoperative nursing experience.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Additional Information

Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
Surgical unit operates on a 12-hour shift schedule.
