Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks (option for 13 or 26 weeks)
Shift: Night shift, Friday-Sunday, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM (3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Summary

  • Perform acute care imaging independently, including ER, ICU, NICU, PICU, and OR settings.
  • Skilled in bedside/portable X-ray, trauma imaging, C-arm procedures, and fluoroscopic studies (e.g., barium swallow, esophagram).
  • Must adapt to equipment-specific training as needed.
  • Floating to other units/campuses required per policy, limited to qualified and trained units.
  • Charting experience with Epic required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiology Technologist license in South Carolina
  • Radiology Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment
  • ARRT (R) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients
  • X-Ray Technician experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Weekend shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights; no additional weekend requirement.
  • No on-call requirement.
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
  • Floating required according to facility policy.
  • Locals accepted but must meet radius rule criteria.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Driver’s license/state ID required for computer access and must be carried on duty.
  • Background check: 7-year history within 12 months of start, including alias and multi-state/county searches.
  • Various federal and state sanction checks required within 30 days of start and ongoing every 30 days.
  • Education verification required; diplomas not accepted as placeholders.
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Drug screening within 1 year, updated annually (5-panel minimum).
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years if working in high-risk areas.
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required by specified deadlines (not required for remote workers).
    • Documentation for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or declination).
  • Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation.

Orientation & Training

  • Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment; failure to complete will prevent start.
  • Pre-assignment testing (medication and EKG/arrhythmia tests) required within 72 hours of receiving login; two attempts allowed.
  • Annual competency exams and core training required, including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, harassment, fire safety, and patient rights.
  • Floating policy acknowledgment required annually.

Additional Notes

  • Badge photo required prior to start with specific background and quality guidelines.
  • Must submit all scheduling requests with application; accommodations subject to approval.
  • Candidate must be prepared to float to other units as needed.
