Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Details

• Position: Registered Nurse - Cath Lab
• Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
• Call Requirement: 1 night per week
• Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend every other month
• Float Requirement: As needed
• Unit Orientation: 24 hours
• Scheduling: Self-scheduled
• Scrubs: Provided

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty.
• Prior travel experience not required.
• Clinical skills include:

  • Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab procedures
  • Cardiac Stent Placement
  • Diagnostic Catheterizations (Adult)
  • IABP Placement/Removal
  • Impella insertion
  • Left and Right heart catheterization
  • Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
  • Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Rotablator atherectomy
  • Scrub procedures in Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Administration and monitoring of procedural sedation
  • Cardioversion and dysrhythmia management
  • IV vasopressors, thrombolytics, emergency medications
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions
  • Sheath removal and monitoring
  • Use of topical hemostasis agents (D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch)
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • End-Tidal CO2 monitoring
  • Activated Clotting Time (ACT) monitoring
  • Circulate procedures

Preferred Skills

• Experience with:

  • Pre/Post Procedure care
  • Special procedures such as ASD Closures, TAVR, Valvuloplasty, Watchman procedure
  • Angioplasty and Carotid Stenting
  • Central Venous Access (Non-tunneled/PICC and Port placement)
  • Dialysis Graft Creation/Revision and Interventional procedures
  • Endovascular interventions and vascular scrub procedures
  • Stent Graft Placement, SVC/IVC Venography, Thoracic Aortography
  • Upper and Lower Extremity Angiography
  • Use of external compression devices (C-Clamp, Sandbags)
  • Hypothermia and Malignant Hyperthermia protocols
  • Obtaining 12 lead EKG/ECG
  • Radiation and Laser Safety
  • Vascular Closure Systems (Perclose, StarClose)
  • Laser-assisted procedures

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina.

Unit Systems & Documentation

• Experience with Pyxis, MAC LAB, CUPID, EPIC, and SBAR communication tools.

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Background check within 6 months prior to start.
• Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months prior to start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional documentation required.
• Required immunizations and titers including:

  • Rubeola (Measles) titer or 2 vaccines
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
  • Varicella
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement during flu season.
• Physical exam (per Aya Healthcare standards).
• Education verification and transcript/diploma for highest degree earned.
• Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start).
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam.
• Color Blind Testing within 1 year.
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
• Confidentiality Agreement.
• Annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education.
• Facility-specific documents such as photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire).
• Corporate ID setup and I-Learn account login within 24 hours of password creation.
• Radiation badge required for Cath Lab staff.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must provide interview availability within 72 hours of submission.
• Some shifts may start earlier (6:30 AM) or end later depending on procedural needs.
• One of the four weekly shifts will be a late shift to complete the last patient of the day.
• Candidates accepted locally; no prior travel experience required.
• Self-scheduling allows flexibility within the outlined shift structure.

This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab RNs seeking a travel contract opportunity with a focus on advanced cardiac catheterization procedures in a hospital setting.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
• Cardiac Stent Placement experience
• Diagnostic Catheterizations (Adult) experience
• IABP Placement and Removal experience
• Impella insertion experience
• Interventional Catheterizations experience
• Left heart catheterization experience
• Right heart catheterization experience
• Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI) experience
• Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring experience
• Rotablator atherectomy experience
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
