Registered Nurse – ER (Night Shift) – Topeka, Kansas
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)

- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 18:45–7:15)
- Hours per Week: 48 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule: 2 weekend shifts per contract
- Charting System: Epic (experience required)
- Local Radius: 50 miles (local candidates not accepted)
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of ER nursing experience
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Prior travel experience not required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- E-Verify compliance (for direct hires)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start (includes SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
- Education verification (highest level must be verified)
- Work history verification for the past 7 years
- Skills checklist specific to unit (annual)
- Employment application/resume
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit test for approved masks within 1 year (annual renewal required)
- Immunizations/vaccine requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with follow-up requirements if positive)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; boosters if negative/equivocal
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented chickenpox history; boosters if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1–Mar 31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to work 36 or 48 hours per week option available
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends as scheduled
- Clear headshot photo required for badge
- Fingerprinting required for certain locations (not applicable here)
- Core HIPAA and safety training required annually for subcontractors
This position is ideal for ER nurses with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working nights and using Epic for charting. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
