Description
Job Opportunity: Cardiac Tele Registered Nurse
Location: Greenville, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (option for 13 to 26 weeks)
Shift: Nights, either 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (1900-0730)
Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (may change based on need)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Job Description
- Float to other units as needed.
- Medication system used: Omnicell.
- Patient diagnoses include:
- Coronary Artery Disease post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CAD S/P CABG)
- Cardiac Valve Repair
- Lung Cancer post-Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS)
- Esophageal Cancer
- Special procedures and skills required:
- Must pass an EKG exam prior to start.
- Experience with post-surgical cardiovascular patients.
- Experience with cardiac drips and insulin drips.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the specialty required for first-time travelers.
- Otherwise, 2 years of experience in the field required.
- Certifications:
- Current South Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only, RQI acceptable.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only, RQI acceptable.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
- Technical Skills:
- At least 1 year of experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Testing:
- Must pass medication and arrhythmia competency exams (Pass/Fail Testing) prior to orientation.
- Other:
- Must be able to float to other units as needed.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty.
- Background checks including:
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter.
- Fingerprinting required if applicable (e.g., if lived/worked in WV in past 7 years).
- Education verification of highest level completed.
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
- Annual drug screening (5 panel minimum) within 1 year of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years if working in high-risk areas.
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (not required for remote workers).
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; second vaccine can be pending if collected within 28 days of first.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination required.
- Respirator Fit Test to be completed onsite during orientation.
Orientation and Training
- Completion of online Cornerstone modules within 72 hours of assignment. Facility will not clear nurse to start until modules are complete.
- Approximately 12 hours of online modules plus 16 hours of non-billable orientation onsite.
- Annual competencies and core training (Parts I, II, III) required, including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA blood-borne pathogens training, and TJC National Patient Safety Goals.
Additional Notes
- Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, plain background, no alterations).
- Floating policy acknowledgment required annually.
- Medication and arrhythmia competency exams are timed and must be passed within two attempts; failure results in cancellation.
- Candidates must be prepared to complete testing on a computer (Chrome browser recommended), not on handheld devices.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required but 3 years specialty experience is required for first-time travelers.
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry RNs comfortable with night shifts, post-surgical cardiac care, and working in a fast-paced hospital environment with complex cardiac patients.
