Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Wilmington, North Carolina
Job Summary

- Shift: 4x9 rotating schedule (06:00-15:00, 07:00-16:00, 08:00-17:00, or 12:00-20:00) with 48 hours guaranteed
- Weekend Requirement: No weekends
- Call: No on-call
- Holidays: No holidays
- Return to Office (RTO): 7 days max
- Float Requirement: Required to cardiac units
Job Description
- Work in outpatient cardiac area preparing cardiac cath, electrophysiology (EP), and radiology patients for procedures.
- Responsibilities include starting IVs, obtaining patient consent, administering pre-procedure medications, and completing EPIC questionnaires.
- Manage pre/post cath lab, EP, and interventional radiology (IR) patients.
- Manage arterial and venous access sites (femoral and radial), including radial compression bands, femoral closure devices, venous sutures, and pulling femoral sheaths.
- Care for same-day discharge patients post PCI, EP device cases, and ablations.
- Manage post biopsy and invasive radiology procedures.
- Unit systems used: Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR.
- Unit orientation duration: 24 hours.
- Scrubs: Any color.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience with Pulmonary Artery Lines
- Triage experience
- Sheath pull experience
- Cardiac medication administration experience
- Pre/Post Cath Lab experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge nurse experience.
- Conscious sedation experience.
Patient Population / Diagnoses
- Cardiac catheterization patients.
- Electrophysiology patients.
- Radiology patients undergoing biopsies and invasive procedures.
- Outpatient surgery patients.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, county, federal, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel urine drug screen required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or series or facility-specific declination).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required.
- Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher).
- Medication safety training and certification.
- Facility-specific orientation modules and education checklists.
- Confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and other facility-specific documents must be completed prior to start.
- Candidate must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation if applicable.
- Radiation badge required for cath lab nurses.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation.
- Candidates must complete the facility’s Corp ID and I-Learn account setup prior to start.
- Scheduling is managed by the unit manager.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel acute care nurses.
- Performance evaluations required if worked with Aya Healthcare over 1 year.
- No weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements.
- Float to cardiac units is required.
This position is ideal for experienced cath lab RNs with prior travel experience who are comfortable managing complex cardiac and radiology patients in an outpatient setting with rotating day shifts.
