Job Opportunity: PCU/Oncology Registered Nurse
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a 35-bed medical and radiation oncology unit specializing in oncology and hematology patients.
- Unit cares for mixed acuity patients including Med Surg and Advanced Care.
- Patient care includes blood products, chemotherapy, drips, PCAs, wounds, and more.
- Targeted patient ratios are typically 1:4, but can be up to 1:5-6.
- No block scheduling; shifts are day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week.
- Floating required to all Stepdown/Advanced Care units, including high-risk respiratory/COVID units.
- Floating locations may include main campus and nearby campuses within 15 miles.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the high-risk respiratory unit unless PAPR is offered/needed.
- Navy blue scrubs required.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of oncology experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience required.
- Experience working with Epic electronic health record system.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Ohio RN license (primary source verification required).
- BLS (AHA only).
- ACLS (AHA only).
- Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 1 year of start or complete it within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts allowed).
- NIH Stroke Certification required unless working in Oncology, Infusion, or certain other excluded units.
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual update required if past positive TB).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months prior to documentation due date.
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
Additional Requirements
- Must submit government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
- Must complete E-Verify and I-9 documentation prior to start.
- Background checks required including 7-year criminal background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks.
- Fingerprinting not required for this position.
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam within 2 years prior to start.
- Must submit 2 professional references from within 2 years (1 must be a manager/supervisor/charge nurse).
- Skills checklist required within 1 year prior to documentation due date and updated annually.
- Must float as assigned by the employer, including to specialty clusters and other campuses.
- Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts or contracts with notice.
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
Work Schedule & Contract Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM).
- Contract length: 13 weeks.
- Option for 18 or 20 week contracts also available.
- No block scheduling.
Important Notes
- Application must clearly show 1:5 ratio experience in stepdown or PCU to be considered. ICU experience does not substitute.
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer. Approval at manager’s discretion.
- Must be prepared to float to multiple units and campuses within a 15-mile radius.
- Must be available for every other weekend and holiday shifts.
