Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms.
- Responsibilities include antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care.
- Perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens (ALGO 5 Machine).
- Must work in all areas of LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum).
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios.
- Weekend requirement: work every other weekend.
- No call required.
- Floating duties include sitter roles within the hospital and potential float to a nearby facility (27 miles away) when census allows.
- Scrubs will be provided.
- EMR system used: EPIC.
- Holiday coverage required with flexibility for staffing demands.
- No time off (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients
- OB/GYN experience
- Maternal-Newborn experience
- Certifications (must have):
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Required skills:
- Circulate
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) Triage
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- E-Verify completed per contract requirements.
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, with multiple components (SSN trace, national/statewide searches, education verification, MVR, etc.).
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance (wet signature required) for L&D and pediatric placements.
- MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start if applicable (not typically required for this role unless floating to specific units).
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager.
- Skills checklist updated annually for the applicable unit.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or facility declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1, with proof or exemption submitted within 48 hours of contract signing.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam passed within 1 year prior to assignment start.
- Competency exam in specialty passed within 1 year prior to assignment start with at least 80%.
Additional Information
- Floating to other units or nearby facility may be required based on census and staffing needs.
- Must be flexible with holiday scheduling due to staffing demands.
- No call responsibilities.
- Fit testing for masks may be required depending on assignment location; must be completed onsite if applicable.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery nurses with required certifications and skills, who are flexible with scheduling and able to work night shifts in a travel/contract capacity.
