Description
OR Tech / Surgical Tech Travel Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Variable shifts Monday through Friday: 8, 10, or 12 hours, starting/ending anytime between 6:30 AM and 11:30 PM
- Weekend and holiday shifts as needed
- Call required:
- Monday-Friday 9:00 PM to 6:30 AM
- Saturday and Sunday 6:30 AM to 7:00/7:30 PM
- Total hours per week: 36-40 hours
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of Surgical Tech experience
- Experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Neurosurgery
- Spine
- Complex Orthopedics/Orthopedic Spine
- Complex General Surgery (including Bariatric surgery)
- Required experience in Level I Trauma and Neuro cases
- Preferred experience in ENT, GU, Plastics, and Burns
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced certifications preferred:
- Epic system experience preferred (not mandatory)
- National certification for Surgical Technologists is not required
- License verification required within 30 days of start (applicable to Surgical Tech discipline)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of the job)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education accreditation verification required immediately after contract signing
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start; annual TB questionnaire required thereafter
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (including Surgical Tech) starting 7/13/2026
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Orientation & Competency Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
Additional Information
- Call and weekend work are mandatory components of this role
- Parking permits available for purchase (cost and options subject to change)
- Facility dress code and hand hygiene policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- NIH Stroke Certification and other specialty certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (verify if applicable)
