Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Athens, Texas

• Shift Options:

  • 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Nights)
  • 4 shifts of 12 hours each (Nights)
• Typical Hours per Week: 48 hours
• Unit Size: 22 beds/rooms
• Charting System: Epic

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Identification: Valid Driver’s License or State ID
• Background Checks:

  • 7-year background check updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
  • Education verification (highest level) required
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
  • Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for:

    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination)
    • Varicella (or documented history)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
• Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and color blindness test as applicable
• Work History: Verification of 7 years work history required
• Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
• Application: Complete application/resume required

Additional Notes

• Candidates residing in certain Texas counties (including Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris) are not eligible for travel contracts in this state.
• Fingerprinting is required only for New Mexico placements and is completed onsite during orientation (not applicable here).
• Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgment and HIPAA compliance.

This position offers a night shift opportunity in a 22-bed Emergency Room with a reputable electronic health record system and requires a solid foundation of emergency nursing skills and certifications. Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
