Description
Registered Nurse (Charge RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Titusville, Florida
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position is a Charge RN role requiring at least 1 year of full-time Charge RN experience (no exceptions).
- Must be comfortable managing a 1:6 patient ratio with patients typically requiring Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care.
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7 AM).
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Floating within scope of practice is required.
- No block scheduling allowed.
- Orientation week: mandatory 5 shifts (36-40 hours).
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- At least 1 year of full-time Charge RN experience.
- Experience in Med Surg and Telemetry nursing.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications & Licenses
- Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Florida.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable.
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except PACU, OR, Women’s Center, or Case Management).
- Additional preferred certifications (not required):
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background check within 6 months including social security trace, education verification, nationwide checks, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance must be on file prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting required if not already cleared).
- Education verification of nursing degree (ASN, BSN, or MSN). Transcript/diploma acceptable as placeholder if verification pending.
- Physical exam within 6 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Drug screen (9-panel) within 3 months of start (instant tests not accepted).
- Required vaccinations or documented declinations/exemptions for:
- COVID-19
- Influenza (flu)
- Hepatitis B
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and quizzes prior to start.
- Two professional references within two years of start.
- Performance evaluation within the last year if applicable.
- Skills checklist required.
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Acute care hospital setting with approximately 210 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Meditech.
- Free parking available in unrestricted spaces.
- Scrub color: any.
- Strict attendance policy: 3 call-outs result in termination.
- Shift change notices:
- 48 hours’ notice refusal may forfeit guaranteed hours.
- 1 week or more notice refusal may result in termination.
- Must plan for approximately 4 hours to complete required modules before start date.
- Holiday work requirements based on number of holidays during assignment (e.g., work 1 evening and 1 holiday if 1-2 holidays fall within assignment).
Summary
This is a night shift Charge RN travel contract position requiring strong leadership experience, comfort with PCU-level acuity, and orthopedic nursing skills. Candidates must meet strict compliance, licensing, and certification requirements and be prepared for a structured orientation and scheduling environment. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
