Description
Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel Assignment
Location: Hermitage, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
Shift: Not specified
Unit and Work Environment
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: Two units with 34 and 25 beds respectively
- Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4 to 1:5
- Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
- Staffing: 2-3 techs per unit when fully staffed
- Equipment used:
- Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm
- Alaris pumps
- Cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Floating: May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
- Scheduling:
- Every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling with 4-week schedules
- Patient care expectations:
- Hourly rounding on days
- Every 2-hour rounding on nights
- Use of AIDET communication and communication boards
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Experience with EKG rhythm interpretation
- Experience managing cardiac drips
- Experience managing insulin drips
Procedures Performed on Unit
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Thoracentesis
- Paracentesis
- Chest tube insertions
- Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
- Central line dressing changes
- Troubleshooting wound vacs
Additional Information
- Dress code: Black scrubs required
- Culture: Family-like atmosphere with strong teamwork
- Most travelers extend their contracts after their first assignment on this unit
- Techs assist with patient care to support nurses
