Description

Registered Nurse - Home Health (Travel/Contract)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8 hours)
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
  • Directly supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
  • Conduct home visits and periodic office meetings; must have reliable transportation and current driver’s license.
  • Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day, including start of care, wound care, and follow-up visits.
  • Patient visits and activities are assigned points; typical daily workload equates to 6-8 points.
  • Travel required up to 75 miles radius from home clinic; compensated for travel between patient homes (not commute to/from first/last patient).
  • Visits may include both patient homes and care facilities.
  • On-call requirement: one weekend per month (varies, discuss during interview).
  • Weekend requirements vary by location and profession.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Home Health nursing, including experience with adult patients.
  • Hospice nursing experience is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Dress code: Scrubs.
  • Productivity expectation: 30 points per week.
  • Possible schedule variations include standard 5x8 or 4x10 shifts (Friday-Monday) depending on territory.
  • Local candidates accepted under the same terms as travelers.
  • Potential for hire at the end of the contract.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Must complete and maintain all required background checks, including 7-year history, sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches as applicable.
  • Fingerprinting required per state regulations; some states require fingerprint results prior to start.
  • Education verification required for nursing degree.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test required.
  • Health requirements include:
    • Physical exam within 12 months confirming good health and no communicable disease symptoms.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (no pending results at start).
    • Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination or declination.
    • COVID-19 vaccination series or declination required.
  • Must review and sign various compliance, confidentiality, privacy, and policy documents prior to start and annually if working over one year consecutively.
  • Must complete Home Health Core Care Policy Quiz and review Home Health Scenarios prior to start.

  • Mileage reimbursement follows IRS standard rate.
  • Contractor may be floated to nearby clinics if patient census is low to maintain hours.
  • On-call and weekend requirements vary; discuss specifics during interview.
  • Must be willing to travel within assigned territory covering Richmond and Columbia counties.
