Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location
- Rochester, New York
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week (3 x 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Call: Nights if possible, 1 every other week
Patient Population and Diagnoses
- Adult patients in acute and long-term care settings (rotating)
- Common diagnoses: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Pneumonia, Respiratory Failure, Respiratory Infections
Work Settings
- Adult Critical Care
- Emergency Department
Clinical Responsibilities
- Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) sampling
- Ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Patient assessment and pulmonary hygiene
- Airway management including:
- Endotracheal tube suctioning
- Extubation
- Intubation assistance
- Nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning
- Sputum specimen collection
- Tracheostomy suctioning
- Oxygen therapy via bag and mask, ET tube, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), T-piece, and trach collar
- Use of specialized equipment such as Hamilton Ventilator, Servo-U Ventilator, NKV330 (NIV device), Airvo2, Dream Machines, V30 ventilators
Patient Ratio Experience
- Experience managing patient ratios up to 1:20
Required Uniform
- Scrubs in any shade of gray or gray/black combination
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in New York
- Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least 1 year of experience
- Experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience working in Adult Critical Care
- Experience working in the Emergency Department
- Experience managing a patient ratio of up to 1:20
Licensure
- Must have valid state respiratory therapy license (primary source verification required within 30 days of start)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start, including:
- SSN trace
- National criminal check
- Sex offender registry check
- Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
- Transcript/diploma verification if no education verification on file
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
- References (2 within last 3 years) required for direct hire candidates
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment attestations
Health and Safety Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year (Halyard duckbill 1870+1860 Regular or 1860 Small accepted; PAPR allowed if failed)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD)
- TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, heroin, opiates)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Additional Competencies and Certifications
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Color blindness testing (one-time requirement)
- Competency exam as required by specialty
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit description
Other Notes
- No local candidates within 50 miles will be considered
- Rotation between acute and long-term care settings with 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
- Facility will provide access to required modules and onboarding instructions prior to start
