Registered Nurse (Critical Care Unit) - Travel Position

Location: San Marcos, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
Employment Type: Travel, Full Time

Job Summary

Provide independent nursing care in a critical care setting, managing complex patient needs and clinical situations. Utilize clinical judgment and collaborate effectively within a diverse healthcare team.

Patient Population

• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Post-STEMI patients
• Stroke (post-TNK)
• Intubated/ventilated patients
• Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
• Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS)
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) exacerbations
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbations
• Gastrointestinal bleeds
• Renal failure requiring CRRT or SLED
• Liver failure
• Patients with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Impella devices

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care following the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Assess and address psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers based on assessed learning needs.
• Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers.
• Meet organizational competencies related to leadership and clinical practice.

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Coronary Care Unit (CCU) within the last year

Skills & Competencies

• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Onboarding

• New hires must attend New Nurses Orientation within 30 days of hire
• Preceptorship by trained staff with competency validations specific to critical care
• Completion of annual competency verifications required

• Work schedule: 7 PM to 7 AM, full-time night shift
