Description

Registered Nurse - Medsurg/Telemetry Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seneca, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Work primarily on a Medical-Surgical unit with patient population mostly elderly, presenting with respiratory diseases, infections, dementia, and neurological issues.
  • Must be experienced in both Medsurg and Telemetry to float between units as needed.
  • The unit promotes a healthy work environment with strong teamwork and a charge RN on every shift to oversee operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience using Epic electronic health records system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Driver’s License/State ID: Required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty.
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check within 12 months of start date, including alias and multi-state/county searches.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter.
    • Fingerprinting required if applicable based on residency/work history.
  • Education Verification: Highest level of education must be verified; diplomas not accepted as placeholders.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; license must not expire within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Must show all licenses and authorization to work in South Carolina.
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with specific background and lighting requirements.
  • Online Modules: Completion of approximately 12 hours of online modules within 72 hours of assignment; required before starting onsite orientation.
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Medication and arrhythmia competency exams required prior to orientation; two attempts allowed with an 84% passing score.
  • Floating Policy: Must be signed; required for clinical candidates.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Physician’s statement within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Immunizations and Testing:
    • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start.
    • Vaccinations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years if working/floating in high-risk areas.
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption required by specified deadlines.
  • Drug Testing: 5-panel drug screen within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit Mask (Respirator Fit Test): Completed onsite during orientation for clinical staff.

Additional Competencies and Training

  • Annual completion of Core Parts I, II, and III training covering universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, harassment, fire safety, OSHA blood-borne pathogens, and TJC National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required annually.
  • Color Blind Testing required for certain departments (not specified for this role).
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification may be required depending on unit.

Work Environment

  • Night shift with 3 twelve-hour shifts per week.
  • Floating between Medsurg and Telemetry units as needed.
