Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse
Location: Towson, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Patient Population: Adult / Geriatric
Job Description
- Provide care on a cardiac step-down unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient diagnoses include dysrhythmias/heart blocks, pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery (including TAVR, permanent pacemaker placement, mitral clips), and occasional medicine patients
- Perform specialized procedures such as EKGs, managing drips (Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, Lasix, hypertonic sodium), chest tube management, strict intake and output monitoring, Foley catheter insertion and care, and mobility assistance using cardiac walkers
- Use specialized equipment including telemetry monitors, IV pumps (ICU Medical Plum Duo Infusion System), pulse oximeters, vital signs machines, sequential compression devices (SCDs), bed/chair alarms, chest tubes, pericardial drains, Foley catheters, and external cardiac pacers for epicardial wires
- Floating within the specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
- Weekend coverage every other weekend and holidays as scheduled
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Cardiac Stepdown unit
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and state-specific exclusion list check (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List)
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Respiratory protection questionnaire must be completed and signed by a medical professional
- Candidates must complete facility-specific Epic training or test out if eligible
- Floating and holiday coverage required as scheduled

- Patient care involves complex cardiac conditions and post-operative management
