Registered Nurse (ER) - Illinois, Peoria
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, typically 36 hours per week
- Schedule: Every other weekend required; weekend shifts vary by time (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun)
- Call/Standby: No call requirement for travelers
- Floating: Rare; may assist other units as a "help all" but not expected to take a team
Work Environment
- Level 1 Trauma Center with 65 all-private beds and 2 trauma bays
- Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity
- Trauma patients cared for by specialized trauma team; travelers typically care for stabilized patients outside trauma bay
- ED staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times
- Two charge nurses per shift managing department needs; charge nurses may assist with critical patients but do not routinely take assignments
- House supervisor available 24/7
- ED techs support nursing staff with a ratio of approximately 1:9
- Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Telemetry monitors (Phillips brand) used; nurses expected to interpret cardiac rhythms and recognize life-threatening arrhythmias
- Radiology staff handle X-ray and CT transport
- Nurses and techs draw labs; phlebotomy occasionally draws labs for boarders
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ENPC
Experience Requirements
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ED - Emergency Department (2 years of experience)
- ED - Emergency Department experience within the last year
- SANE / Forensic experience
Clinical Skills
- Proficient in general nursing skills and critical care nursing in the ED setting
- Experience with titrating various drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications
- Ability to care for a wide range of patients from newborns to elderly, including minor complaints to critically ill patients (e.g., cardiac arrest, strokes, heart attacks, trauma)

- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Non-billable orientation of 12 hours (orientation hours do not count toward guaranteed hours)
- Drug-free workplace; negative drug screen required
- Scrub attire: tasteful scrubs with solid-colored shirts underneath; no specific color required
