Registered Nurse – Orthopedic

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: Orthopedic (43 beds, all private rooms)

Job Description

• Care for postoperative orthopedic, trauma (fractures), and general medical-surgical patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shifts: 1:4-5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-6
• Primary charge nurse present on each shift; house supervisor available 24/7
• Patient care technicians support with a ratio of 1:7-8
• Equipment includes CPAP and heated high flow; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; RNs do not read their own strips
• Travel RNs may float occasionally to similar MedSurg floors
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (day shift on Sat/Sun, night shift on Fri/Sat)
• No call or standby requirement
• Dress code: any color scrubs, professional appearance; tattoos and piercings must be covered
• Orientation: two unit-specific sessions (12 non-billable hours)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Orthopedics experience
• Rehabilitation (2 years of experience)
• Rehabilitation experience within the last year

Additional Information

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Call-off policy: equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
• Travel RNs are first to float if needed
• No prior travel experience explicitly required
