Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (12-hour shifts)
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend coverage: every other or every third weekend
- Float required
Unit & Patient Care
- Emergency Room in a Level I Trauma Center
- Stroke-certified and STEMI-certified facility preferred
- Patient ratio approximately 1:3.5
- Responsibilities include triage, dysrhythmia interpretation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, ventilated patients, trauma care, psych holds, and pediatric emergency care
- EPIC documentation and Pyxis system used
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- Background checks and health requirements as per facility policy (not detailed here)
- Competency exams and orientation as per facility policy (not detailed here)
Orientation & Training
- 36 hours of orientation required
- Annual safety manual acknowledgement
- Annual stroke education continuing education required for nurses working in stroke-capable areas (2, 4, or 8 hours depending on unit)
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
