Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (12-hour shifts)
  • Approximately 36 hours per week
  • Weekend coverage: every other or every third weekend
  • Float required

Unit & Patient Care

  • Emergency Room in a Level I Trauma Center
  • Stroke-certified and STEMI-certified facility preferred
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:3.5
  • Responsibilities include triage, dysrhythmia interpretation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, ventilated patients, trauma care, psych holds, and pediatric emergency care
  • EPIC documentation and Pyxis system used

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
  • Background checks and health requirements as per facility policy (not detailed here)
  • Competency exams and orientation as per facility policy (not detailed here)

Orientation & Training

  • 36 hours of orientation required
  • Annual safety manual acknowledgement
  • Annual stroke education continuing education required for nurses working in stroke-capable areas (2, 4, or 8 hours depending on unit)
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
