Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry

Location

  • Bedford, Indiana

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Specialty & Experience

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Required Years of Experience: 2 years (screening may begin at 1.5 years)
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Shift & Hours

  • Night shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (17:00 - 5:30)
  • Total hours per week: 48
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Unit & Patient Population

  • Adult/Geriatric Medical-Surgical unit
  • Staffing ratio approximately 1:5 or 1:6

Required Certifications

  • Indiana state RN license (must be active and in hand before start)
  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification

Preferred Clinical Skills / Experience

  • Thoracentesis
  • COPD exacerbation management
  • Pneumonia care
  • Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) care
  • Hypoxia management
  • Electrolyte imbalances
  • Weakness assessment
  • Hypertension management
  • Small bowel obstruction
  • Altered mental status
  • Renal failure

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including 7-year history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tuberculosis test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations or history accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam
  • Unit competency exam
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (charge nurse, manager, supervisor, or above)
  • Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days (covering 7 years)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience
  • Medical-Surgical / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

This position requires a dedicated RN with solid MS/Telemetry experience, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work night shifts with holiday coverage. Compliance with all licensing, certification, and health documentation is mandatory prior to start.
