Job Opportunity: OB Tech (Surgical Services) - Travel/Contract

Location

• La Plata, Maryland

Contract Details

• Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: August 3, 2026
• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Required as scheduled
• Floating: Between Labor & Delivery (L&D), Mother/Baby units, and sister facility as needed
• On-call: Not pre-scheduled but required as needed

Unit and Patient Population

• Work areas: Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby units
• Patient age range: Adults, Neonates/Infants
• Patient diagnoses: Level I Birthing Center (low risk)
• Average daily census: 6 patients (~40 deliveries/month)
• Number of rooms/beds: 5 rooms / 10 beds

Job Responsibilities

• Assist as OB/surgical tech with:

  • Cesarean sections (C-sections), including low-risk cases with surgeon
  • Tubal ligations
  • Dilation and curettage (D&C)
  • Emergency hysterectomy
  • Circumcision of newborns
• Use of special equipment:

  • Hearing screening machine (training provided)
  • Transcutaneous Bilirubin (TCB) machine

Required Qualifications

• OB Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience
• OB Technician experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and federal/state exclusions
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel plus Fentanyl within 45 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test (N95 respirator) within 1 year of start; must be medically cleared to wear
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for L&D and pediatric units)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
• Certifications as applicable:

  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (NCC C-EFM certification required; AWHONN not accepted)
• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of work history

Additional Notes

• Must be able to work with low-risk C-sections alongside surgeon (hard stop requirement)
• Candidate must be competent to float between units and potentially to a sister facility
• Photo for badge and various facility-specific confidentiality and compliance documents required prior to start
• Epic training test-out available for eligible candidates (facility-specific process)
• Facility requires timely completion of all compliance and credentialing documents before start date

This position is ideal for OB Techs with solid surgical and OB experience seeking a travel contract in a Level I birthing center environment with night shifts.
