Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry (Nights)

Location: Waterloo, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Shift: Nights
Hours per Day: 12
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a telemetry monitoring unit with a 1:5-6 nurse-to-patient ratio and 25 beds.
  • Float across medical-surgical units including post-op units.
  • Manage drips and titrates including heparin, insulin, diuretic infusions, amiodarone, diltiazem, and 3% saline infusion.
  • Provide post-op surgical care for procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and minor surgeries.
  • Use EPIC electronic medical record system.
  • Must be able to confidently read EKG/ECG including telemetry-related duties (rhythm strips, dysrhythmia interpretation).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Post-operative surgical care experience including EGD, colonoscopy, cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and minor surgery
  • Experience managing and titrating heparin, insulin, diuretic infusions, amiodarone, diltiazem, and 3% saline infusion
  • Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Additional Information

  • Orientation date available.
  • No local candidates within 50 miles; ancillary roles only.
  • Work hours typically 36-40 hours per week with overtime after 40 hours.
  • Call back and on-call duties may be required.
  • Charge/preceptor roles available.

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with strong telemetry and medical-surgical skills who are comfortable managing complex drips and post-op care in a fast-paced environment.
